Post subject:  Intel D945PVS Mainboard Optical Out? (Sigmatel 9223)

Alsa is a bit of a mystery to me. At the moment, after a clean install of KnoppMyth R5C7, we have stereo output OK out of the green jack, but it appears if we watch any channel which has dolby digital, we only get noise.

We want to have the board optically connected to a receiver. We have done so but are yet to receive any noise from the optical ipnut of the receiver.

Running alsamixer only gives us 2 mixer controls - 1 master and one Mic. Running the X mixer that ships, it is 1 master and 1 gain.

Where are all the other controls? How do I get the board to fire up the optical out? Also, if possible mix up PCM broadcasts and throw them out over the optical as well?

From what I understand, I may have to mess with ALSA configurations? I see particular mentions of a file called asoundrc?

Has anyone had this working (or something similar) and would like to give me a step-by-step quick guide on how they did it?

I'm stuck at the moment, lots of mentions on sites giving away free aoundrc files for nforce and soundblaster, but no-one seems to have something for the Intel High Definition stuff (Identified on the web site for the mainboard as Sigmatel 9223)

Regards,
Ramrunner.

Never mind.

The confusion was created because of the output of cat /dev/asound/pcm in the how tos I've been reading weren't the most descriptive.

I finally discovered that I was missing the digital output lines in the above output.

A download and compile of the latest ALSA drivers fixed it.
