First question - is a cheap USB IRDA dongle likely to work with Myth for recieving a remote signal? The LIRC project documentation says that USB is a no-no, but other resources seem to dispute this. If USB is ok, will a '£5 from ebay' irda dongle do the business, or are they only really meant for synching with a PDA sitting next to it? This is for a receiver, not a blaster.

The reason I'm asking is that I've got the remote that came with my Twinhan tuner but there are so many problems deciphering the button presses that I might try it with a different IR receiver. If that's no good, I might try the remote from my MVP (which I never use due to lack of mpeg4 support), which will obviously also need a receiver for the PC.

Is your Twinhan Remote connected via USB? If so it should be automatically detected as a USB keyboard and you will have 2 options for making it work with Myth. The keys in myth can be remapped or you can remap the keycodes for the USBHID module (usb keyboard driver). IF it is a USB remote then check out this post as I think it describes your options quite well.

As for whether a USB dongle will work I have no idea, but in a similar vein, I was able to use the Twinhan USB IR receiver with another remote (using LIRC), but it did not appear to detect the full IR code for the keys and most of the remote keys were detected as the same code (out of 40+ keys there were only 10 unique codes).
