So for the heck of it I'm trying to install KnoppMyth R5C7 on an old server I have kicking around at work. The hardware is as follows: 2xP3 700 Coppermine 2 GB RAM 5x18 GB SCSI U160 HDD's attached to an AMI MegaRAID Express 300 RAID controller in a RAID5 array Adaptec Controller (AIC 7xxx I think) with nothing attached. When I try to boot from the CD to attempt to install, it hangs at "Scanning for Harddisk partition and creating /etc/fstab.....". I can't seem to access a console (obviously because the kernel hasn't been completely started). It looks like it was able to find and load the correct drivers for the RAID card and the SCSI controller. Any suggestions? I seem to have problems getting this machine to like Linux in general. It doesn't mind Slackware as long as I tell it to load the RAID controller driver, but it won't boot Fedora or Ubuntu either. |

Spend the $50 and get a 100GB ATA disk instead. The RAID is overkill in performance for this application. Plus, when a disk actually croaks you'll pay about three times that for a replacement 18GB SCSI 80-pin disk. Some things just aren't worth the aggrivation -- fighting with obscure hardware is high on my list. |
