Post subject: | Types and Numbers of Expansion Slots |
I have been combing through the Tier 1 and 2 forums and I have a question regarding the numbers and types of expansion slots other users have/need. I am trying to sort through all of the selections out there for Motherboards. What would be recommended as a mininum number of PCI ( most boards now have 3 ) PCIexpress, AGP and whatever else there is. I ask this as I am not sure that 3 PCI slots would be enough for viewing live tv and recording at the same time. Also I am not really sure what else I would have to plug in now and in the near future so any insight would be welcome. Thanks for all the GREAT work so far. d |

I think you also need to consider the cards you are going to plug in. There are tuners now out there that have dual tuners on the one board, thus will only take up one slot. This is a two fold question and I feel can not be made independantly of each other. |

It is currently possible to set up a system using a SFF box with 1 AGP slot and 1 PCI slot which has two SDTV TV tuners, TV output, and a remote control. (a PVR-500, an Nvidia video card, and either an IR keyboard and learning remote or an MCE USB remote.) Certain boxes with TV Out built into the MoBo will even let you skip the video card although I don't recommned it myself. My current KM box has 5 PCI slots and 1 AGP, but I'm only using 2 PCI slots and the AGP.... http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... Components |
