Hi, I'm KurtJesus (duh?). I have a question on how well my hardware will work with knoppmyth and mythtv. I have: 2 X Twinhan Visiondtv TER (DVB-T, software encoding). USB-IR remote that comes with the above cards (Black and white, 32 buttons). P4 1.4 Ghz. Nvidia V-9520-X 128MB. (Is enough for DVD playback). 320 MB RAM. One 6 GB hardrive and one 13 GB. (I think i will be installing the main system on the 6 GB and have recordings on the 13GB). So the questions are mainly: Does this system have enough horsepowers to watch one show while recording another, and will I have any trouble with any of the hardware?. Greetings / KusrtJesus *EDIT:* I'm in Sweden and the Format is PAL-B. */EDIT* |

Hi KurtJesus, As DVB-T is already in MPEG2 format you don't need to decode the stram like anologue tv. So less horse power is needed. Good news for you and your p4. I don't think it takes much to record stuff, it's hte displaying of that usually takes up the bulk of you cpu load. If there is/isn't enough power, the only real way is to have a go and install it and see. But I think you should be ok. Unless you are outputting high def. Which it definately wouldn't be. My only concern would be hard drive space. 19gb or hard drive is no where near enough. 200 - 250 minimum in my opinion. Can't comment on your video card and there are lists about of what hardware people use. look on the teir 1 lists for recommendations. Hope it works out for you. |

Hi KurtJesus, Quote: main system on the 6 GB and have recordings on the 13GB Will work. You could maybe squeeze in a couple of short recordings. Later if all is well, simple manually format a larger drive, then copy the 13 to the larger drive and keep on going.
I don't think you will have a enough horepower (P4 1.4 Ghz) to play back the hd, smoothly. What I see listed should work very well for analog and if you cut back the bit rate (vhs quality), could have ~8 -10 hours record space. Try it and let us know how it goes ![]() Mike |
