The original Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_pvrusb2.html is supported by KnoppMyth (according to Cec's post here http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7071)
BUT I don't know if a recent firmware change is likely to affect Knopp compatibility :?: - see here http://www.isely.net/pvrusb2/pvrusb2.html where Mike Isely writes:
Quote:
Hardware versions
As of this writing, there are two major variants of the PVR USB2 hardware in circulation. They can be physically distinguished by the white sticker on the underside of the device - the retail boxes are identical, unfortunately. You can also distiguish the two variants through the USB ID reported to the host when the device is plugged in.

The older device variant has a model number on that white sticker which matches the pattern "29xxx", and its reported USB ID will be 2040:2900. Throughout this documentation, the older device variant will be referred to as "29xxx hardware".
The new device variant has a model number on that white sticker which matches the pattern "24xxx", and its reported USB ID will be 2040:2400. Throughout this documentation, the newer device variant will be referred to as "24xxx hardware".
This driver is intended to work with both old and new hardware. Right now it is stable with the old hardware, and for the new hardware things seem reasonably OK as well but of course only time will tell. See the Bugs section for more details. Also, the firmware situation and chip-level modules are different in the two cases, which may impact how you set things up. The documentation on this site covers both model variants.

I've been trying to collect a census of the various model variants in circulation. You can find the current results in models.txt; please e-mail me if you would like to add your device to the tally.

There still seem to be few people using this tuner with Knopp (only one cross here http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... CardYouUse) so does anyone know for sure if the latest revision works? If anyone is using one of these tuners, please look at the white sticker on the underside - look at the 5 digit number furthest to the left. According to Mike's page above, the new devices all match the pattern "24xxx".
I'd like to know if the firmware/driver change will affect KnoppMyth compatibility :?:

KnoppMyth does include this driver so, it should work...

Hmm, I needn't have worried...finally got my hands on one of these, and despite being brand new, it is still the older "29xxx" variant. Needless to say, it works out of the box.

First post, I'm a complete newb, but I may actually be able to add usefull information.

I bought one of these tuners and it is the newer 24xxx hardware. I did get it to work, but it will not work out of the box (R5C7). To get it to work I followed the installation directions on this page

http://www.isely.net/pvrusb2/setup.html

There was another post on this forum that you can search for that had step by step instructions included on how to follow those instructions, I can't find that right now, but that is what I used.

I followed the post, but had to make various changes. I don't remember all of them (being totally new at linux I'm sure some of my edits were complete bunk anyway), but it was mostly changing version numbers.

The one big difference was to use the firmware extraction perl script to get the firmware files from my windows driver CD.

If there is interest I can make a wiki (I think... never tried) or give the files from my install to be included (I need to read up on feature requests first).

I'm not sure if you can install it in such a way that either version of hardware would work, and I don't have another to try it with.

Hope this helps somebody

Thanks Charlie, and welcome aboard! Glad you got your 24xxx working - eventually there won't be any more of the old variant left on the market, but now I'm really glad I ended up with a 29xxx!

The next release has updated v4l-dvb drivers, so if you could report if this works, that would be great!
