Post subject:  4+ tuners and IRQ conflicts - need sugestions on MB

Right now i have a master backend that consists of the following :

Soyo 865 Motherboard
Pentium 4 3.0 prescott

Nvidia 5500 agp card (can't get 6600 do native lcd res with same modelines)

Gigabit Ethernet
WinPVR-500
2 HD5000 HD Tuners
Soundblaster live soundcard

I have enough slots for everything, however when i have the second HD tuner installed my second tuner on the pvr 500 will not work correctly. I get errors about irqs etc. When i change the tuner to the pvr-500 second tuner it locks the system up or crashes the backend. with out the second hd tuner everything works great.

Since i want to be able to do qam with one and ota with the other i am looking for a motherboard that can handle all this.

onboard gigabit or good onboard sound would be good but then i would like to put my pvr-300 in there too. (4 cards 5 tuners)

Any one have a similar setup that can handle all of this? I would prefer AM2 or 939 setups.

any help would be appreciated.

Is it using the APIC? You really shouldn't be running out of interupts that fast...

when looking into the problem it seemed that may be affecting it so it turned it off. i think i used the kernel option apic=noirq.

that didnt help...is there a way to check to make sure your not using it...or anything else to force it not to?

would changing slots help?

I know the pcHDTV folks have mentioned that you can only have four of their tuners in one box "because of IRQ limitations." I don't know if this means only THEIR tuners or ANY tuners, however. Is it possible there is a general limitation on IRQs that will prevent us from ever having more than four tuner devices in a single box? If so, I guess one alternative is to set up another backend computer with some of the tuner cards.

Sorry xcrixtx, guess I wasn't clearer enough. If possible you want APIC because it supports more distinct interupts that way.

in that case i did use apic and then didnt...neither worked. I may try moving stuff around to see if the order helps....

but besides that .... anyone have success with a board and 4 tuners?
