Post subject:  TV-Out-Cheap VGA-RCA converters/S3 Virge GX2/Cheap Vid Cards

I'm trying to get my computer to work with my TV as a monitor and I'm considering several options.

1.) I have a S3 Virge GX2 Video card with an S-Video and RCA out. However I can't get these outputs to work and have found no information on how to do it. Anyone else have any luck here?

2.) I saw a $5 VGA-RCA converter here:
http://www.computercasesandcables.com/ccc/CV-25120.html?id=WNdztTkH

Could this be any good?

3.) Anyone know of any cheap video cards that are easy to get working on Linux?

Thanks for any advice.

-Brian

EDIT: Can the PVR-350 be set up to act like a graphics card-displaying the menus and all? Also I have a Pinnacle Card with RCA input and output - but not a tv card. It's for camcorders... Any hope of using this as the tv card?

Depends on your definition of "cheap". A fanless geforce FX5200 based card with tv out can be had in australia for around $50AU. I call that cheap. It is easy to get working on linux.

Thanks for the info Greg, that is pretty cheap. Anyone know the answers to 1 or 2 still?

Thanks again,
Brian

HI,

Just basicly answered this except details of 350. When you install R5C7, enter tv at boot time (for 800x600 res) During the first reboot setup, try 16, b, it asks if you want tv out. Answer yes but DO NOT choose boot splash. It should switch you to the composite tv out connector on the dongle cable.

All menus, gallery, music etc now will be sent to that tv port. I feed mine into a 4 input rf modulator for a tv in the other end of the house and the modulator has a video loop so I have it in the "office" also :) Walmart special for ~$25

The reason for no boot splash is that, a) you won't see that on the tv, b) it will fail after a reboot because the frame buffer setting will change. Fixable but why bother if you can't see it anyway.
