Is there a preferred wireless card for Knoppmyth?

Post subject:  Is there a preferred wireless card for Knoppmyth?
I have a Pentium 4, PVR-250, and FX5200 video card. I do not want to do any video streaming. I only want my myth box to get the channel guide wirelessly. This will be a "no-wep" configuration at first.

QUESTION: Is there a generally preferred wireless card for Knoppmyth? Something that is somewhat likely to work out of the box with no wrangling?

I dont have an answer to you actual questions. But just FYI, the wireless link will not limit your ability to stream. If you stream to the internet, your upload speed will be MUCH slower then your LAN wireless links.

Here is the solution that I use:

* Buffalo Wireless-G Ethernet Converter Model: WLI-TX4-G54HP
with
*SIIG JU-2NE012 USB2.0+FIREWIRE+10/100 Combo (PCI card)

So, I opted out of an internal wireless card because I'm not so proficient in Linux and feared an installation problem. The Buffalo device takes my already exisitng wifi and converts it into a receptical to which a CAT5 cable attaches. The cable goes from the Buffalo device to my ethernet card. I included the part number of my ethernet card, because it also is a USB 2.0 and Firewire card. 3-in-1 is a great idea. It saves potentially 2 other PCI slots for other things. I haven't tried the firewire yet, but I have confirmed that its ethernet port and USB 2.0 ports work in my Myth box. The best part? No setup was needed; it worked right out of the box with no driver configuration needed.

I am trying to configure my wireless card and I am being asked " Enter the mode for rausb0

Managed, ad-hoc, master, repeater..."

Not sure what to select???

You most probably want to be in Managed mode. This is used when you have a separate access point running the wireless network. If you have a wireless router, this is the setting you want.

Do I need the PCI card if my box already has an ethernet port? Also, I have to use WEP...will this defeat the easy of this configuration?

No, you would not need the PCI card, if you already have an ethernet port. The Buffalo device handles WEP and WPA with no problem. Configuration was easy.
