Post subject:  Sound card selection

Hi

I'm building a PVR system and I have a bunch of old sound cards lying around and I was wondering which one would work the best. All of them have good sound quality atleast to my ears so I guess I'm really just looking for the one that is going to eat up the least CPU power.

An original SB AWE 64 pnp 16bit ISA or a
Ensoniq ES1371 PCI card or a
HSP56 CM|8738/PCI HRFT audio com

I'm thinking then ensoniq card may be a better bet just because its newer uses PCI bus not ISA. As for the HSP56 I can't find any info on it at all so unless some1 know that this is an awesome card (really doesn't look to hot) I'm not even considering it.

I've tried a bunch of soundblaster boards and while the system sees them (per dmesg) - for some reason the drivers just don't load up.

Oh well. Interesting.

(I tried, SB16, SBAWE, Vibra16) - alsaconf saw all of them.. but rebooting yielded what looked like no driver in lsmod and (obviously) no sound. (Shrug)

BIOS?
Debian?
ALSA?

Who knows.
