Hi,

Im in the process of setting up a knoppmyth box. Before i get down to work i wonder if you have any oppinions on this hardware conf. As far as i heave read in these forums i shouldnt get into too much trouble.

I will try to use some old scrap equipment to start with. If this turns out to be the best entertainment system ever i will uprade for my needs.

I have a old Dell dimention with:
2 * 663 MHz PIII coppermine
1 * GB memory
1 * 120 GB Seagate IDE
1 * Hauppauge 350 PVR (Ok, this is not old scrap)
1 * Soundblaster Live 5.1

Im hoping to use my 350 as my TV out aswell.

Can anyone give a tip on a silent DVD?

Thanx a bunch

/Pompa

I had issues with an old (several years) Dell oem soundblaster 5.1 card....you may want to read this if you get audio issues.

I ended up using the onboard sound

Hi,

Over kill on the memory, 256 is good with 384 swap for backup area. I have it running on a L400c so I would suspect it will work on yours also. May have to didle with the audio setup.

I am sure you will have fun trying :)

Fortunatelly my SB 5.1 was not delivered with the dell box. I'll check the descrition on the web. if it is based on some weird chip, i wont spend alot of time on it.

Thanks guys.
I´m sure i will tell you how i proceed. :( :D

Hi.

If it has an on board audio, try that, may have to use the alsaconf. I usually have to add a modprobe in the bootmisc.sh as the "older, more mature" machines need that to load the driver. cs-4236, younger machines have the i810.

Cheers
