Post subject:  Sound install question [SOLVED]

I have a MSI 661FM2-LSR SiS Motherboard with built in sound card and a Hauppauge PVR-150 and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500. My question is how do you jumper the sound from the computer to the TV? I was planning on using the S-video out port on the NVIDIA card to the TV. Is that all I need to do or do I need to have a second cable from the sound card to the TV?

Thanks,

d

You need to take the audio out from the sound card into the audio inputs on the TV that correspond to your svideo input. Just like you would fro a VCR or DVD player you were hooking up that way. This usually involves an adapter to go from an 1/8" stereo plug on the computer to dual RCA phono jacks.

OK, got the cable and hooked it up and no sound. I currently still have a VGA monitor hooked up an haven't changed the settings to use the TV. Does that matter? I also hooked up some headphones to the line out on the motherboard. Still no sound. I also have another sound card laying around and did the same with that with the same results. Will I have to consider drivers for the sound cards?

Thanks,

d

Have you run alsa mixer to make sure it's not muted or set to zero volume? Have you tried playing a simple audio sample? (aplay /usr/share/sounds/beg.wav)

tjc,

I found your replies in another post:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ight=sound

and went through most of those instructions. Along with the above suggestion. I did not get any sound when trying the wav file and this made me go back to my motherboard manual and I found that there was a front panel audio jumper that was in the wrong place. I now have sound (WOOOPIE) but I have another question that I will start a new thread with.

Thanks
