Hello,

I tried searching but apparantly didn't use the right terms because I am sure that there is a post or document out there for this.

I am looking to get a new, larger (of course) hard drive for my KnoppMyth PC. How would I go about moving everything from my existing drive to the new one? I am currently running R5B7, so I would probably be wrapping a KnoppMyth upgrade into this process as well. I just want to be sure to save the few recorded shows that I currently have, along with my settings.

The common response for increasing space usually has LVM as part of the solution. However, I am planning on reusing my existing drive elsewhere, so LVM is not an option in this instance.

Thanks for any assisstance (including just pointing me to the post that I am sure I have missed),

Tim

I have done this with commercial disk imaging utilities such as Symantec Ghost and worked great after having to repair lilo. There should be opensource tools to do this such as ghost4linux as well.

Here is the howto to fix lilo after imaging.

I had a very detailed discussion on this with marc.aronson here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10116
If you harvest keywords from that thread you should be able to find at least a couple more discussing various ways to do this in considerable depth.
