Post subject:  New Hardrive now can't play video/music

I just added a second hard drive to my Myth box and now I am having some strange problems.

- I moved my Videos folder to the new harddrive. I changed the directory in the Setup for Myth and it works for some videos and not others. I am able to see the videos in the Video Manager area and setup an IMDB number to them. I can see them in the Browse Videos area as well but when I select one it just flashes really quick and then goes back to the Browse Videos. This seems to happen on most of my Videos but some are able to be played properly. These are Videos that I have watched prior to the harddrive being added so I know they work fine.

At first I thought it might be a codec thing, but when I checked some that do play are using the same codecs (mostly XVID) and they work fine.

I then dropped to a Xterm window and I was able to startup Mplayer and run the videos fine from there. So I don't know what is going on.

- Second thing that happened is I moved my music directory over as well. Set it up in Myth to reflect the new directory and now none of my music will show up when I Scan for New Music. I ripped one of my CD's and it puts them in the correct directory and I am able to play those, and they are sitting right next to the MP3's that will not scan in. I have no idea on this one.

So am I missing some config file somewhere or something? I have searched through this site and the mythtv.org mailing lists for answers but have come up empty. I even thought about recompiling my mplayer but to be honest I am very new to linux and do not even know where to start.

I have the same problem with my videos, wasnt to worried about it but am curious to know why, mine are .avi files

As for your music, similary to mine in a sort of way. I have mine set up over the network as, with yours I believe is in your Mythbox, but to me sounds like a mounting problem possibly, but I am no expert. There is a free program called LinNeighborhood that helps manage network drives, but you could also manage your locals in a windows sort of enviroment.

I will look into that.

I broke down and figured out how to get Xine installed and I tried it. Same thing. Works fine in Xterm window but as soon as Myth is running it won't play movies.

It is prob something small that I am missing I guess. It only took me a whole day to figure out how to change the folder permissions so that I could copy stuff from my Windows XP box through Samba. :(

Check the ownership and permissions on the new partition.

I had odd problems after installing a second drive which I mounted over /myth/tv because it was owned by root rather than by mythtv. Doing a:

chown -R mythtv:mythtv /myth/tv

as root solved the problem.

Thank you so much. That did the trick.

I have fooled with this the entire day, I even reinstalled my system a couple of times to see if that would work.

Worked fine when I only had 1 HD but 2 and it would go weird.

See I told you it was something small
