Post subject:  A n00b's hardware

I've been thinking of building a Mythbox for a long time. The system would be used as both a backend and frontend and I'd like to be able to record and watch TV at the same time.

The old system I have is
Pentium III/IV (I forget) 800mhz with 256 Megs of ram.

I would buy a 200/300Gb hard drive, a PVR-350 Tv Tuner, and a Wi-fi card.

How do you think this would work?

P.S. How hard would it be to use a monitor to set it up and then switch to a Standard Definition TV once its all done.

Thank you for your help.

The backend/Frontend setup is the only way I have ever done it. An 800Mhz processor is pretty slow so it could stutter a bit when its doing something in the background. I spent $100.00 and 2.4Ghz celeron processor and $50.00 on a cheap motherboard and my system runs great now. Im not sure on how difficult setting up wifi is so I can't help you there. I just ran cables everywhere. The biggest hard drive you can afford is the way to go. For setting up you should connect it up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Get it all setup, configured, tweaked and then when it all runs fine connect it to your tv.
