Post subject:  grayscale: only X session on TV screen (solved)

I did a clean install of KnoppMyth R5C7.

It basically worked fine with a TV connected.

Then I did some administration (nvram-wakeup) and therefore I connected a CRT monitor instead of the TV.

Now I switched back to the TV and now the X session has no colour anymore but shows only grayscale (desktop and other programs like Mythtv).

But during booting with TV connected it starts in colour and stays in colour until X starts and when I shut down the splash screen ("welcome to knoppmyth") colour cames back again.

This only happens on the TV screen.
When I connet a CRT monitor parallel with the TV the CRT monitor shows X (and everything else) in colour but the TV has only grayscale in X.

Has anybody an idea, what has gone wrong here??

how is your TV connected to the PC? are you using an S-video cable? Are you then converting the S-Video to composite?

What is the TVOutFormat in your XF86Config-4? If you have a S-Vidoe to composite converter, try setting TVOutputFormat to COMPOSITE

Code:
Option  "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
Option  "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE"

Thanks, that helped:

I put those lines in

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Code:
[....]

Section "Device"

[...]

        Option "TVType" "PAL"
#       Option "TVVScan" "over"
        Option "TVOutput" "Composite"
        Option "ActiveDevice" "CRT,TV"

[...]

and then nice bright colour was back agein :-)
