Hey guys, As of yesterday i've had Knoppmyth RD51 up and running, so far so good! My system atm contains: - AMD Duron 1.2GHz - 256 MB ram - 60GB HDD - GeForce4 MX 440 64mb I've decided that i'll get a Hauppauge card, they seem to be the most common, therefore there should be the most support around?? As to which model to get i'm in a bit of a pickle, PVR-150, 250 or 350? What is the main difference between the models? I'm in Australia, and the 350 is probably a little over budget. Do all come standard with a remote? If anyone in Aus knows a good seller that'd be great, might try the swap meet this wknd. Thanks in advance! Andy |

One of my systems is similar to yours. I have found little difference in operation between the PVR 150 and PVR 250 (both are very easy to get working). Given that you are using an MX 440 video card your picture quality will be about the same for both so I would suggest the 150. The only benefit to the 350 is a slight improvement in picture quality but at a higher cost and more difficult install. The good news is that any of these is well documented... |

I have a 150 an' everything looks great with it. The only problem was that I initially was only getting snow. You have to add a line to the modprobe.conf IIRC. I forget the exact details. I posted them in a couple of the threads, though, so a search should find it. |

Great, thanks for the replies guys. Think i will go for the 150, as this is myu first MythTV AND Linux experience. Cant wait to pick one up and get it going. Will do a search and read up before i buy it. Any Aussies out there? I'm wondering if the tuner at centre.net.au is a good price (AU$211) http://www.centre.net.au/Hauppauge_WinTV_PVR_150_TV_Tuner_000921.html Also, my computer doesnt have any IR capabilites atm... do i need to pickup any additional hardware, as the computer will most likely not be visable (possibly in a cupboard). Cheers There's a version of the 150 that comes with a remote. It's a bit more expensive, but definately worth it if you don't have a remote. It's really well supported, as well. I haven't had any lirc issues. |

Ok cool, thanks. this may be a bit of a silly question, but is the PVR-100 (non MCE) digital or analogue? i've seen on sites some call it an analogue tuner, some digital? |

Never heard of such a beast (pvr-100) do you mean a Hauppauge PVR-150? Hauppauge PVR-500? Something entirely different??? The confusion probably has to do with the fact that SDTV NTSC and PAL cards capture and convert an analog transmission signal into a digital recording, versus a HDTV DVB or ATSC capture card which just grabs a pre-encoded digital transmission signal... |

Thanks, that makes things a little clearer now. Which one is the PVR-150? I think only an Aussie can answer me this, will the PVR-150 allow me to view ABC2? |

My $.02 is I started with a 150 and once I recognized the power of myth, I went to a pvr-500. I now have THREE tuners and some days that is not enough. If I were starting from scratch and had no HD requirements, I would spend the extra and get a PVR-500. |
