Howdy all, i m about to build a mythbox on a p3 866 w/ 384 ram and have a question, will a PVR-350 function as a tuner and video out as well as sound out? I would also only be able to either watch a live show or record a show with one card?

Yes to everything you said except for the sound output. The pvr-350 does output sound, but only for videos that it is playing using the hardware decoder. Other sound sources like mp3's or avi's played by mplayer, DVD's played by xine, etc all need a sound card to output the sound.

ah, but i will be able to get audi out with it while watching Live tv or a recording? Also how hard is the 350 to get working with Knoppmyth?

R5C7 should have you up in short time. Many folks run the audio from the prv 350 dongle into the line in on the sound card, set up to use master instead of pcm. Then you have audio from all sources at one controlled location.
R5D1 has a problem doing pvr-350 tv out which is unresolved at this point in time so that is the reason for R5C7, or older is ok also.

To the original question.. I'm using the PVR350.. yep it's great! .. I've setup for the sound to go to the TV set instead of through the sound card. Handy to have all TV sound coming out the same box.. on the other hand, myth-music will come out the soundcard. (not a perfect world!)

NOTE: you do need a VGA card and monitor to run the initial installation.. the "redirection" out the PVR350 comes in the late part of the install.

Hi,

If you use a RCA male to the 1/8" mini adapter and connect the tv audio out from dongle cable back into the line input of your sound card then all audio will be on the same connector.

You may need to open a xterm (alt x) and run aslamixer setting the line input level and unmute it. Also in the utilities / setup there is a selection, general? that allows you to use pcm or master for control and preset the opening level, you want master @ ~80-90, adjust to match your system .

I enjoy my 350 card also.
