Trying to get my wireless working in knoppix but its being a real pain, I figured id just use ndiswrapper like I always do, and the installation was going fine untill I had to issue: modprobe ndiswrapper When I type that I get the error: "FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.17-chw-8/misc/ndiswrapper.ko): Invalid argument" Any ideas on fixing this? I tried to just install different ndiswrappers but I cant even get those to compile because of something with the kernel. |

Okay, a couple things. First, are you sure you have the correct version of the driver. You might want to try an older version. Also, some people forget that even though they have 64-bit processors, when running knoppmyth, they are running it in 32-bit. Probably not the case, but it is useful to check up on. Another thing to look into is when you install the windows drivers, make sure the .ini and the .sys file are in the same directory. You can install the drivers, have the hardware be recognized, but it will never start up properly because the driver is not complete. If this does not work, please respond with the name of your card, (model and build), include the revisions, and if you know the chipset. Also the '#ndiswrapper -l' output and you '#lspci' output. Thank you. EDIT: Also, make sure you have net (not ham) wireless configured into your kernel. Please respond if you cannot do this. Thank you. |

The driver should be correct, its the same one I used when I had fedora and CentOS installed (its on a cd since I have no lines ran to the server it requires wireless) Definately dont have a 64 bit processor, im running a 900mhz dinosaur lol. I have the bcmwl5.ini and .sys in /drivers The card is a linksys wmp54g (comes up in linux as broadcom of course) ndiswrapper -l gives me: Unknown line at line 5942 (and repeats untill line 5953) Installed drivers: bcmwl5 driver installed, hardware present lspci gives me (for the network controller): 0000:00:05.0 Network Controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03) as for what your asking me to make sure I have configured in the kernel, im afraid im not exactly sure what your asking me to do, and searching about it is telling me nothing. |

i am guessing you are using r5d1 since those line errors i got on my install as well. i posted this issue a few weeks ago and got very little response. I tried installing all different versions of ndiswrapper with no luck. I came to the conclusion there must have been some error with the kernel and went back to r5c7. I could get my driver to work but wpa would not work, those line errors must have been causing a problem there. If you want to just use wep or nothing then your shouldn't have a problem with those errors. any help just yell out cheers |

yes I am using r5d1 im not using any kind of encryption right now since I live in the boonies and have a brick house so the signal doesnt even get 10ft outdoors, and the neighbors are pretty far away. If I cant get the wireless to work I unfortunately might have to go back to something like fedora, as much as I dont want to do that. |

For the WPA you need wpa_supplicant. I'm not familiar with knoppmyth, but in gentoo, the package is called wpa_supplicant. To see if you have wireless in your kernel (and this is a biggy), open up your config file, and check to see if config_net_radio is set to 'Y.' If it isn't, fix, recompile, and you should be all set. |

wpa_supplicant comes with knoppmyth so thats not the problem the issue was the line errors. They stoped the driver from loading properly. When the driver loads it is meant to tell you the driver and give a little info on what features you can use. The line errors stopped it loading right, so in my case wpa_supplicant couldn't work right, while in this case he can't get the driver to work properly at all. As of yet I haven't been able to find a reason for the line errors. |

I have the same problem.. I haven't found a way around it yet. I am using the same network card, also. |
