Hello All,

I had Knoppmyth working well in my old place. I've since moved and I have digital cable which requires that I tune the TV to one channel and from there I use the digital cable remote to change the TV channels on a TV without Myth. I did some research and it appears I need to use an IR blaster to change the digital cable box channel with the remote that came with my TV tuner card when using Myth. I have an ATI TV card and ATI Remote Wonder. The ATI remote is a RF remote instead of a IR. Does anyone know if the IR blaster will work with a remote that is a RF remote?

Thanks

An IR Blaster will work with your cable box provided that your cable box has an ir remote. The style of remote used by your tuner card is irrelevant.

Thanks for the info.

Just to see if I understand the IR blaster. I assume when you install IRB the lirc disables the channel button on your tuner's remote so when you go to change the channel instead of changing the tuner channel the change channel signal is sent to the IR blaster who in turn sends the change channel signal to your cable company's digital cable box hence your tuner stays on the preset channel and just the cable box channel changes. Does the IR blaster work the same way when recording a channel -- that is, say you want to record a show on channel 20, mythtv sends a signal to the IR blaster to tell the cable box it wants to record channel 20 instead of recording channel 20 on the tuner card which would be a blank channel since it was moved off the preset channel.

You seem to have grasped it. Just remember the tuner's remote doesnt control the tuner directly. Just think of it as a keyboard. It is up to the software to decide what to do when you press keys on the remote, and the way you have described it is the way it works.
