Post subject: | Nvidia 6200 TV-out issue on R5D1 |
Hi all! New to the forums Myth. Trying to setup a box for the second time (first try was with an ATI Radeon 9500 and gave up). I have an Intel D850 with P4 1.4 512MB, PVR-150 non-MCE and a Nvidia 6200. I've got everything up and running on the monitor, but when I pull the monitor off and plug in svideo to my tv I don't get any signal. I've udpated to the very latest drivers off nvidia's site. Searched the wiki and wasn't able to find much. I tried copying the tvout.sample over and using that, but still no signal. Any ideas? What logs would you like me to post? frisco |

Did you shut down, remove the monitor, then connect the tv, then start back up? That works for me. you can also just restart the frontend. First disconnect the monitor, connect the tv, then press CNT-ALT-BKSP thats a backspace. The frontend should restart and ask for the mythtv password or, after 30 seconds, just continue anyway. Make sure your tv is set to the svideo input first, so the computer can sense that it is active. Actually you can try this with the monitor connected, just to see how the restart works, but the picture won't come up on the tv, it'll come up on the monitor if the monitor is connected. Zig |

Yup, tried that and it didn't make a difference. I get bios & boot up info but thats it. Past that no linux booting info shows up on the screen. I just hopped into the box (I'm at work) and was looking in my XF86Config-4 file and saw some settings that weren't right (I've been playing so much with it I may have copied back the wrong file). I changed the horizontal and vertical refresh back to what it needs for tv and manually put in the following lines: Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV" Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M" Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO" so that may have fixed it, won't know until I get back home, but what causes the Linux kernal loading, etc to not show up? |

If you start it up with no monitor and just the tv. what happens if you then plug the monitor in while still running? Does the monitor get a picture or is it black like the tv screen? |

going off memory from last night...it stayed off. My girlfriend is supposed to be going to the house in a little while. I'll get her to check. |

Well, lets see, I have an Nvidia 5200 with composite out, not svideo out. My composite out works fine if I boot with no monitor attached. I'm running a clean install of r5d1. I have not modified XF86Config-4 at all. I didn't update any drivers. If I boot with a monitor and a tv both connected, I see the bios boot screens and lilo and all of the knoppmyth boot process on both screens, right up until gdm starts. then the tv goes black and mythtv is only on the monitor. If I boot with nothing connected and wait for the boot to complete and then connect the monitor and the tv, mythtv is only on the monitor. If I boot with only the tv connected and wait for the boot to complete and then connect the monitor, mythtv is only on the tv and the monitor is black. You could try booting with nothing connected and when its finished connect the monitor. If the monitor now shows mythtv and it is black when you boot with the tv only connected, then you know that the tv is being sensed and the monitor out is being disabled. This might indicate that it is trying to drive the tv but in the wrong mode, somehow. The fact that the kernel booting info doesn't show up on the tv is very odd and may be at the root of the problem. How about if you just boot the knoppmyth CD with only the tv connected? Or a Windows install CD? or a knoppix CD? or a dos floppy? Does this card have a composite out that you could try? Does your monitor have an on screen display where you can view the horizontal and vertical frequencies? On a Viewsonic they call it the viewmeter. If it does, you could connect the tv and monitor then boot the computer and see what the vertical and horizontal frequency is during the kernel boot process. At this point it should be mirroring the same frequencies to the monitor as the tv. If the vertical is not 60 hz, then that is a problem. Maybe someone else can chime in with some ideas. Keep me posted on what you find. |

more info. I've gone through so many installs and notes, but here's something: It works the first time it boots up. After that it stops giving video to the tv and the remote stops working as well. |

update - I've modified and tweaked and heres what I've got so far. If I leave the monitor plugged in and on I get the linux bootup info until it gets to X. Then it switches over to the tv (and stops showing on the monitor). I'd be totally happy with this except if I don't have the monitor on and plugged in then I never get anything on the tv. Its like its autodetecting something between the card and monitor in order for everything else to work. Also I've been unable to get the remote to work after the initial install (after I've told it options ivtv tuner=50.) I've found some notes that say upgrade to 0.7.1 and I have but nothing yet. I'm not seeing any issues in the messages log, but then I'm a linux n00b and I might be missing something. Any ideas?? |
