Post subject:  R5D1: Frontend segfaults if LCD is enabled

Hello,

I have a HD44780 (16x2) LCD display conected to the paralel port in my myth box, I´ve configured LCDd.conf and LCDd works just fine (I´ve tested it using the lcdproc program).

The problem is, if I enable the LCD in mythtv, the frontend segfaults before coming up, without any explanations why this is happening.

I´ve tried to run mythlcdserver manually and it can comunicate with the LCDd server, so the problem sees to be in mythfrontend.

Has anyone suffered this same problem? How did you solve it?

Hi there

Which version of lcdproc are you using? Lcdproc-0.5.0 is not supported by mythtv-0.19 or earlier. You may need to try 0.4.5. I believe Mythtv-0.20 support 0.5.0.

cheers

I've checked lcdproc, and it turned out that r5d1 shipped with version 0.5, which is incompatible with mythtv. I downgraded it to 0.4.5 and it worked ok. Thanks for the help!

Pinteiro -

Can you tell me what you did to downgrade? I'm having the same problem (KnoppMyth R5D1) I also downgraded to 0.4.5 (if I recall I think I used apt-get remove, then apt-get requesting version 0.4.5).

I've confirmed that I only have one copy of LCDd on my system, and that when I run it from the command line it tells me that it is version 0.4.5.

I can start the front end and enable the LCD from setup and everything works fine. The problem is that once LCD is enabled - all subsequent attempts to start mythfrontend result in a segmentation fault. The only way to fix it is to turn of LCD in the database.

Can you tell me if you did anything different? What might I be missing?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Mike
