Post subject:  Dolby Digital Live / DTS Connect - Choosing a motherboard ?!

Hi everyone. Longtime lurker, first time poster. About to make the dive into the htpc world.

The short version: Do I want "Dolby Digital Live" support on my motherboards onboard sound?

Longer version - I'll try and be brief.

I am chosing a motherbord - am upgrading from a nForce2 with onboard dolby digital encoding. I used to get DD5.1 output from everything (stereo sources).

I am looking at onboard sound that has "Dolby Digital Live" / "Dolby Master Studio" / "DTS Connect" etc. technologies.

The big question: Are these things supported by Linux/Myth? Will I get 2.0 sources upconverted to 5.1?

... or should I just be looking for standard onboard sound - with spdif. It would sure give me a broader choice of motherboard... will just mean I need to keep changing the audio mode on my receiver/amp... and I'd much rather everything outputted in DD5.1

.. or should I just be buying a receiver/amp that supports Dolby Pro Logic IIx or similar... and let it convert 2.0 sources into 5.1

Sigh. My head hurts. Sorry to be a noob.

Please post URL if this discussion has already been done either on these forums, or somewhere else.

Thanks in advance everyone.
