Post subject:  pvr-150 1045 vs pvr-150 274

I am very interested in building a myth box but i have been reading so many different things that i seem more confused than ever. Originally I was going to purchase a pvr-500, but it seems that the newer models are not of a very high quality. So now i am looking at two pvr-150's. My quesion is are there any major differences between the pvr-150 1045 and the pvr-150 274?
Would i be able to buy 1 of each and just use the remote that comes with the 1045 to control both? Any advice would be appreciated.

Here are the specs on my computer that i am thinking of using solely as a myth box.

Ahtlon xp 2500+
512 mb pc 2700 memory
80gb hdd + 250 gb hdd
biostar m7ncd mobo
nvidia geforce fx 5600xt

Thanks again.

The base hardware looks OK, I don't see anything that's on the grey list. You'll need to do a bit of minor fiddling to use both disks as the default install only sets up one, but that's not hard.

As for the PVR cards, there are a bunch of PVR-500's at the moment with an unsupported or poorly supported tuner chip. This will most likely get fixed in time, and then rebroklen again as Hauppauge plays musical chairs with tuner suppliers. If you get one with a supported chip you'll be fine, but it's kind of luck of the draw. In the PVR-150 the 1045 is the non-MCE one with a remote control connected through the board. The remote controls the system not the card directly, so all you need is one. The MCE ones (I don't recognize the model number off the top of my head) either come without a remote, or come in a "kit" with ann MCE USB connected remote. These also work.

Thanks for the feedback. I think maybe i will just go with a single tuner to start out and then later add a second card.
