I've just instaled an audigy SE 7.1, which uses the ca0106 module. I've upgraded alsa to 1.0.13rc3. But I have no sound. I'm using analogue

The module is loaded. cat /proc/asound/pcm gives me the follwowing

00-03: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-02: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-01: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-00: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1

alsamixer works as expected, but no sound. the spdif is muted (off) and all the various analogue output sliders are set to about 75%.

I have a feed from a cable box into the line in of my audigy soundcard, and using alsamixer I can turn up the capture feedback and listen to the sound into the card. I can turn the capture on and off by changing the input from mic to line etc again in alsamixer, or by turning the digital out on or off

I can change the volume of the sounds by varying the volume sliders on alsamixer for the appropriate control, and muting the digital on and off siwtched the capture off and on.

This proves to me that I can control the card. what puzzles me is why no application, including aplay, and speaker-test will output any sound.

aplay along with any mp3 player (mplayer, myth etc) just sits and does nothing at the start of the sound file. Myth gives the following error

NVP::AddAudioData():p1: Audio Buffer Overflow, Audio Data Lost

!speaker-test using the command speaker-test -c2 -twav -Dplug:front
returns the following output.

speaker-test 1.0.13rc3

Playback device is plug:front
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 32 to 16384
Period size range from 16 to 8192
Using max buffer size 16384
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 4096
was set buffer_size = 16384
0 - Front Left
Write error: -5,Input/output error
xrun_recovery failed: -5,Input/output error
Transfer failed: Operation not permitted

kernel version is 2.6.15

Thanks for any assistance
