Post subject:  Hooking up a front projector to myth

Hi,

I hope this is the right section for this question.
I currently have my myth box hooked to an old ntsc tv set. In the next few weeks I plan to buy and hook up a Sony HD front projector.
My questions are:
What's the best way to hook it up? (I was thinking VGA cable)
Will I need to change anything in my setup or will myth/nvidia card detect the new projector and adjust for it?
Do I need to change my Modline or is that just for DVI/HDMI connections?
I read that a bad modline settings could damage my equipment.

Please guide me in the right direction as I would hate to ruin my new projector.

Cheers,

-e

Depending on your current setup, you may have to modify your XF86Config. I know I have my Knoppmyth box hooked up via Svideo cable to my Standard CRT TV, but had to add some code to enable the Svideo output. With a projector and your desire to hook it up via VGA, you should be able to build the machine with a normal monitor and then just hook up the projector when it's complete.
Not sure about HDMI or DVI. I will say that both HDMI and DVI are better than VGA since they're both digital so if your box is capable I'd go that route provided you can get it configured. (search the forum, lot's of good help here with both!)
Hope that helps!

I have an HS50. It will only do 1270x720 via VGA/component, so I use VGA. For anything better (HS60, ruby), DVI to HDMI cable, or VGA.

You will need to change your X config modeline, but I have never seen an LCD projector damaged by wrong sync rates.
