Post subject:  NO SOUND while watching but Sound on recordings

System:
Dell Dimension 2400
Intel Celeron 2.2 ghz
1.128G RAM
PVR-150
Intel8x0 built-in sound card
40G Hard Drive
Knoppmyth R5D1 Mythtv 0.19

My problem is there is no sound when watching tv, dvd, or listening to audio. no sound at all.

I can pull the recordings off the system and play the mpg file on another system and the mpg has sound so the system is getting sound in but not out.

Your subject line is slightly misleading, but based on the problem description in your body text, you need to spend some time fiddling with alsa mixer and the audio playback settings.

While playing something back, get a shell session (see the LinuxTips page on the wiki if you need help) and run alsamixer don't forget to scroll to the right to see all the sliders. At the very least you need to have the Master and PCM volumes turned up and unmuted. You may also need to do the same for "Center", and possibly others (I also need to unmute "External" and "IEC958 Playback AC97-SPSA" and to have "IEC958 Playback Source [PCM]").

You may also need to change settings in the front end setup screens to (Under "General" or "Playback Settings"?) so that the system uses the right output controls.
