Post subject: | Problems with PVR500 on Comcast Digital |
I'm having trouble getting my PVR500 to receive the analog channels in my Comcast Digital service in the way that my television does: the PVR500 shows the lower channels behind a cloud of noise and the higher channels (40-80) at very poor quality. Why can my regular old TV display the signal fine directly from the wall but the PVR500 can't? I've read some posts regarding Comcast digitizing what used to be analog channels, however if this was the problem why can my TV view these channels? I'm running R5D1 and I updated IVTV to 0.7.2 and NVIDIA to 1.0-9631. The PVR500 is correctly identified on boot. I have the box connected to a monitor until I resolve the tuner issue. Any and all advice _greatly_ appreciated as I'm a Linux noob! Thanks, ~Archie |

Have you been through this troubleshooting page? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV Look especially at the frequency set stuff. Also, how about this one? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PictureQualityIssues In addition to the general physical connection suggestions, it specifically mentions certain Samsung tuners on the PVR-500. |

TJC - Thanks for the feedback. I tried these things but none worked. However, I did stumbled upon this thread indicating that Hauppauge has produced some bad cards: http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showthread.php?t=33675 So, basically I need to contact Hauppauge and figure this out. I'll post edits later. |

I had the same problem with the PVR-500 tuner card on Comcast, although I do not have any digital TV service. My channels were very 'snowy' or 'noisy'. The problem is with the ivtv module. I patched my kernel v 2.6.17 and all is good now. Well at least it is 150% better. Some channels have a noticeable line on the bottom of the screen and some channels have noticeable diagonal lines, but it is very exceptable. I don't think you have a bad tuner.... I was not able to get the remote to work, so I used an ATI Remote Wonder II I had laying around. Check out this link for the patch and instructions on how to install the patch. I must warn you that it will take some time for the patch to be integrated. It took one or two hours for the patch to compile/install, but it was worth the wait. You need to down load the 'samsung_patch_2.6.17.diff' patch near the bottom of the page and follow the instructions at the bottom. MAKE SURE NOTHING IS BEING RECORDED WHEN YOU INSTALL THE PATCH. Good Luck... http://www.mail-archive.com/ivtv-users@ ... 03909.html |
