Post subject:  No sound from MythTV?

Hi All,

I can route the sound from the BT878 tuner audio-out to the sound card line-in (using the patch cable supplied with the tuner card) but that of course just gives me the live-tv sound, not the sound from MythTV recording.

Alsa seems to work ok. It's volume control works etc in the above configuration. However the MythTV volume control obviously has no effect.

I've searched around a bit, but most of the threads seem to deal with getting alsa working. I think I have got past that point given that the alsa mixer works?

So where do I look next in getting Myth to use the sound system?

Thanks in advance,
JohnO, desperate MythTV newbie.

Some more info:
I haven't quoted dmesg, lsmod, lspci yet, as I cannot get mozilla to install (apt-get install mozilla giving '404' errors) so I have to post from another pc.

However, when it loads the bttv drivers for my card, i2c looks for sound chips and finds none. Does that mean I'm barking up the wrong tree with btaudio?

OK, so I guess I have to go back and hookup the tuner's audio out to the sound card's line in then? If I do that, how to I configure MythTV to record from line-in and play sound to the sound card output?

Cheers
JohnO

OK, continuing my conversation with myself

I got it sorted: just needed to use the patch cable into line in, then use aumix to set the record channel to line in, and turn line in and mic levels down to zero.

Isn't it funny how talking it through makes you think -> answer

Now that I've got a fully funtional BT878 based MythTV box I think I'll go ahead and screw it up by installing the PAL format PVR-250 OEM MCE card that arrived in the post!

Cheers,
JohnO
