Hey everyone,

I've been using knoppmyth for a few months now and it's great!

I was wondering your opinions on a current situation. One of the PVR's display has dramatically less quality than the other. This issue seemed to exist before KnoppMyth (while running in a different distro) as well.

I've done the following:

- Confirmed both card settings via 'ivtvctl -d /dev/video0 -Y && ivtvctl -d /dev/video1 -Y'
- Swapped cables connected to the cards
- Updated/custom-compiled ivtv (0.4.4 and 0.4.7) (see below)

For custom compiling ivtv, I followed this thread:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 6b36f74b05
And this wiki:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

After custom-compiling ivtv, the problem has gotten dramatically worse. It's barely watchable now.

So after all this, is it safe to assume that card is faulty?

With ivtv 0.4.7 you don't need to fiddle around with those patches. They're already covered by the release if you follow the upgrade process on the wiki.

The latest 0.4.x series is 0.4.8 which might also be worth a shot.

While you're at it check your tuner model. There are a growing number of reports of problems with the Samsung tuners used on the many PVR-500s and these parts sometimes get shared with the PVR-150s.

ivtv 0.4.8 pegged the box during Livetv (cpu load +20), so reverted on back to 0.4.4 (unpatched), and the original tuner is working marvelously, and the bad one worse than ever.

Oddly enough, they are both the same Conexant chipsets. I suppose this is definitely a bad card. Issuing an RMA as I type this. ;)

Thanks much for your help and advice. I'll post back here if the new card exhibits similar problems.

It was in fact the card. Already have the replacement back (NewEgg rocks!), and it's working great. Had to update back to 0.4.7 ivtv since no channels were coming in, and there still is some station information discrepancies, but I'm confident that will get sorted out soon.

Thanks for your advice and have a wonderful holiday this weekend!
