Hi, I have the P5B and when I tried to install Ubuntu on it in Nov. I had to upgrade my DVD to SATA so I could install it, something about the "Intel ICH8R" IDE devices not being supported, I'm not sure if that has been fixed in R5E50 or not but check it out before you get the headaches, I might try installing R5E50 Tomorrow and see, if I do I'll post the results. l8r |

The installer takes care of the rest. _________________ KnoppMyth R5E50 MythiC Dragon v2.0 Join the KnoppMyth Frappr! |

Looks like a very nice setup and should overclock pretty good if you wanted to. Since you only have 3 PCI slots you should take a look at the HDHomerun for HD. It can do over the air and QAM. Since it is an external device it will save you a pci slot. Also if you use one of its tuners for over the air, you can locate it in a more convenient location for cable runs. |

from what i understand, if you're setting this box up to be knoppmyth exclusively, that spec seems like major overkill. you could probably save $150-$250 in mobo and cpu and still have no problem with HD... and from reports the geforce 6200 handles it fine, too. now, if you want to do other gaming or have fast transcoding, that system will work. i'm looking to build a complete HD system with 2 boxes: separate FE/BE and Diskless FE for ~$550 including some parts i have laying around... not saying the hardware you're looking at isn't fine, just that you probably don't have to spend as much (save for a nice HDTV?) to run HD. check out the teir1/2 examples for lower-end HD setups. oh... and i use the kworld ATSC 110 for OTA digital and (with a minor fix to get the firmware to load on boot) it works great in R5E50. |

I agree with the other poster saying the CPU and mobo are a bit overkill. Your other cost-savings could be found on the memory if you went with a lower-end processor that didn't require DDR2 ram. di11rod |
