so you are trying to output to a tv? IF that is the case I suggest you search the forums for ati tvout, however I will tell you up front it is not good news. I don't think anyone has everything working good on ati tvout.

I have exactly the same problem.
I have an Albatron KM10GPro MB with nForce2 chipset (NVidia GeForce MX440) and I'm running a Twinhan VisionPlus DVB-T card. The integrated TV out is supposed to support 1024x768 (I have 800x600 working), but I get a blue screen on TV and Video playback.
in MythTV, I updated the setup to put "-vo x11" instead of "-vo xv" in the Television and DVD settings. The DVD now works fine, but the TV still has a blue screen all the time.
Would love to find a solution to this.

Perhaps running the frontend from and xterm then quitting to see the output. There is also a post on the forum about starting the frontend and spitting the out as a log...

The output seems to be pretty much identical on both, so any help you can proviide would be greatly appreciated.
A couple of things I did notice though. The output is still trying to go to XV, even though I've changed the parameters to "-vo x11" for video playback. Since I've already updated the mplayer conf file, I'm guessing mplayer isn't used for live TV (or playing recorded TV), or the setting is stored elsewhere.
Cheers...

Not having a DVB card, if I had to guess, I'd guess you don't have a strong signal. Have you browsed the MythTV archives?

The signal isn't great (I can watch all channels to some extent), but I know that isn't the problem. This only occurs when mplayer is trying to run on my TV using "-vo xv", and doesn't occur at all when it's running on my monitor or using "-vo x11". ie. DVD playback used to do this, but is now flawless (after changing the mplayer parameters to "-vo x11"). It doesn't occur at all when running through my monitor, but occurs consistently when running through my TV.
And yep, I've browsed the archives, searched google, google groups, etc, etc. I did find one person who found a solution to this, but their solution involved a Modeline in XF86Config that stopped anything from being viewable on my TV. I've resorted to posting here after searching on everything I can think of and not finding a solution myself.
I'm guessing the only way I'm going to resolve this is by playing with different Modelines and hope I get lucky.

I haven't followed this thread that closely, but I'm a little confused what would a dvb card and mplayer have to do with each other?

Xsecrets wrote: I haven't followed this thread that closely, but I'm a little confused what would a dvb card and mplayer have to do with each other? Err, I don't think they do.
The problem is in outputting the signal to the TV, not in the reception. The problem seems to be the way MythTV is configured to display the video stream using XV. I had exactly the same problem with watching DVD's until I modified the mplayer command line in "Settings->DVD Settings->Play Settings" from "-vo xv" to "-vo x11".
I can't find anywhere that I can setup the live TV output (or recorded TV output) to use x11 instead of xv. I've updated "Settings->Video Settings->Playback Settings", the /home/mythtv/.mplayer/config file and the /root/.mplayer/config file without any luck. To be totally honest, I'm not even sure if mplayer is what handles decoding the TV signal from the card. But if I can modify the config to use x11, I think my problem will be resolved.

well actually that was my whole point mplayer is not used by the tv module at all mythtv has it's own video player. changes to mplayer will not affect it at all. by the way what are you using for tvout? does it have xv support?

The reason why I was mentioning mplayer, was because it did have the same (blue screen) problem until I changed it's output from xv to x11. I figured that if I could change the live TV output to use x11 as well, I'd solve the problem. Unfortunately, I can't find where that's configured.
The TV Out is on the motherboard. I'm running a Albatron KM18G Pro motherboard which has the nforce2 chipset, 5.1 audio and NVidia Geforce 4 MX video on board.
The on-board graphics doesn't have xv support (which I'm beginning to suspect is part of the problem). But I have no idea why xv would work fine on the monitor and not on the tv out.
So, my question now is: What does display the tv out, and how do I configure it to NOT use xv?

Edit settings.pro and recompile MythTV.

Thanks Cesman, I'm trying that now.
I assumed that commenting out the Code: CONFIG += using_xv line would resolve the problem, and I've tried a couple more settings. I've had some compile errors and had mythtv crash when trying to watch TV. I've done a make clean and I'm compiling again. I'll keep trying different settings and see if I can get it working, but any pointers on what settings I should change would be welcomed.

onboard nforce2 does support xv. have you loaded the nvidia drivers?
oh and on another note the nvidia drivers only support xv on one display. if you are trying to run twinview you cannot have xv on both displays. Which is why I always suggest use only monitor or only TV.
