Okay have been just mildly using mythtv on and off for awhile now. I really like few of the new small additions I have seen in myth .20 so I am using the newest knoppmyth for now.

I had it setup with one tuner card a pvr-150 the low profile.

I just received in the mail 4 pvr-150 cards. THey are standard size cards. 3 of them have fm tuners and one does not.

SO I took out the pvr-150lp and then stick in the 4 new tuners. I go thru the mythtv-setup thing again. Everything is correctly set there.

I go to watch tv. Well all static. Oh forgot to mention I am just in a testing phase right now with just a single coax cable. I have no splitter yet. I am still shopping around for a good 8 port active splitter.

SO the static was initially just coax not hooked to the right card. It appears as though. Tuners are detected from outside of the board inward to video card slots.

So changed it to property tuner 0 . Worked then tuner 1 worked but tuner 2 and 3 just gave static.

So I just exited mythtv, went to commandline to run mplayer .

First retest tuner 0 and tuner 1 with the
mplayer /dev/video0
mplayer /dev/video1
both of them played fine.

I tried mplayer /dev/video2
also /dev/video3

neither other card worked.
mplayer output did not indicate anything wrong.
So I rebooted.

Took the 2 working cards out of system and left other 2 exactly where they were.

Tried the mplayer /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 and they worked. So the tuners do infact work.

I then rebooted and just put one of the full size cards back into the system so now 3 of exact same cards in the system. All with fm tuners.

I tested again and still only /dev/video0 /dev/video1 give me any sort of picture. The other one give all static.

So what is going on that I can only get the first 2 working.

Oh forgot every time system starts up it detect the proper number of tuners and I do not see anything in ivtv tuner logs that indicate any errors.

Anything simple that I am looking past?

It might be worthwhile pasting here the contents of your /var/log/messages between the "START INIT IVTV" lines and "END INIT IVTV" lines, as this will give some people with more knowledge than me, some more info to be able help you.

It might just be that it's Friday night and I'm short of sleep but I'm having a hard time following what you've actually done.

1) Have you added card definitions in mythtv-setup for all 4 cards (/dev/video0 through /dev/video3) as MPEG2 encoders?

2) Did you you set up Input Connections for each of the four cards that associate your "Video Source" with Tuner0 on each card?

3) Have you run the TCL_M2523_SOMETHING_E_fix.sh script to deal with tuners that need to have their type forced in /etc/modprobe.conf? Did you reboot after making that change?

4) Did you test each card with the cable connected to it's input?

5) Have you been throught he rest of the checklist here? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV

In addition to tjc's suggestions, have you tested/setup each of the 150s individually? Many times problems occur with hardware interaction (IRQ, I/O allocations, etc.) I would try each 150 on it's own within a known working KM install, then add them one at a time, from a scratch install if possible. You may have lingering entries in your DB that are affecting your system.

Well not sure what is going on with the system as sometimes when I run mythtv-setup and I remove all cards setting and repopulate it appears like all the cards work.

Other times it is just 2 cards that work.

Later I tried viewing certain channels on what I thought was a 4 tuner working setup. Non of the cards were tuning correctly to certain channels.

So I am going to follow Slowtolearn's advice.

Additionally is there anything special in bios that I want to set reguarding irqs. Do I want to disable unused things like parellel port, sata, etc?

I thank you for all the quick responses. Such a lively forum. Very nice thing to have.

Okay well I am posting an update.

I changed my setup around a little bit and problem is gone.

I put a pvr-350 in first pci and filled rest with pvr-150. I also did this one at a time on a fresh install.

So while I can not really tell you what the problem was I atleast want to put closure to this thread as it is very annoying finding a thread that may help you and then just having it stop dead.

I do have other little issues that I will be starting new threads for, but thanks for the help with this problem.
