Post subject:  ASUS EN-7600 and SPDIF audio

I have an ASUS EN-7600 that has an HDMI out that goes to my TV. The HDMI is supposed to carry the audio, and the card included a short jumper to go from the SPDIF out on the motherboard (Intel DG965) to a SPDIF in on the video card for this purpose.

I know the hardware works just fine like this in Windows XP, but I can't get the audio to work on knoppmyth. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers loaded, but I suspect it could also be a problem of not coming out the SPDIF on the motherboard. I don't have a way to test that.

Any thoughts?

Please try running "alsamixer". Scroll through the different audio channels and try to find one named like "digital out". Maybe you have to set it to zero, this helped me.

ErikU,

Did you have any success with getting spdif sound from the DG965?

I have the same board and have been told that if I want digital audio I will need to add a sound card (Chaintech AV-710 recommended) as the Intel board does not have good support for linux. If you got it working I would most grateful to know how.
