Post subject: | DVD Lockup on R5E50 - SOLVED |
UPDATE: I got it to stop locking up on commercial disks by using version 1.2.8 instead of 1.2.9 of the library which shall not be named. Go figure. The homebrew disk must just be a crappy disk. Coincidence led me to think of something worse than it was. Joy. Thanks for your assistance. Just installed R5E50 this afternoon. After getting LIRC to work again (thanks tjc for the heads up), I can't get most DVDs to do anything besides lock up the system. I can't figure out the problem. This is nothing to do with the dreaded decryption which shall not be named. If I put a homemade DVD in the drive, one that worked prior to the upgrade, it does the same thing as a commercial disk that worked prior to the upgrade. One commercial disk tested has worked, but so far I'm batting about .100 I put the disk in the drive. I wait. I go to "Optical Disks" and choose "Play DVD." And then I wait until I want to poke out my eyes. I can't change to another VT, SSH disconnects my remote connection, it just locks up. No excessive HD use, no error messages, just a lockup that requires a hard boot. This machine has been running nothing but Knoppmyth since I built it just one year ago. Never have I seen this problem, on the three previous iterations of Knoppmyth I've used. Any help is appreciated. What is your /dev/dvd linked to? I'm not familiar with that board, but if accessing a DVD locks up a system like that I would think the /dev link(s) may be hosed. Are any of your drives jumpered for Cable select? Are there any clues in /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog? |

/dev/dvd is aliased to /dev/hdc (appropriately), as it had been previously. /var/messages has a lot of duplicated lines before I force a reboot: mythtv kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown mythtv kernel: hdc: drive not ready for command mythtv kernel: hdc: status error: status=0x58 ( DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest ) Again, these errors are occurring on multiple disks, all of which worked perfectly in the exact same hardware using Knoppmyth R5B7 yesterday. Thanks for any insight. |
