Post subject:  Linux Newbie Needs Help With ATI 8500

I've been fooling around with KnoppMyth for the past couple weeks, trying to get it to work. Here's the hardware I'm dealing with:

Shuttle MV43 MB
512 GB PC 133
1.7 GHz Celeron
No sound card (yet)
ATI USB Remote Wonder
ATI AIW 8500 DV for monitor, tuner, & TV out

I'm working with R5D1 for now, because I've found many instances of success with TV out on the ATI cards, whereas I've only seen a few successes with R5E50. I'm trying to take this one step at a time, and all I'm trying to do so far is watch TV on my PC, but when I click on "Watch TV" I get kicked back to the menu immediately.

Problems I've Noticed:

On boot, I see the message "Knoppix found no Multimedia Cards"
In setup, I get "could not open /dev/video0 to probe inputs"
When I do "dmesg | grep tuner" I get nothing.
When I do "dmesg | grep ivtv" I get the start init, warnings, and end init with no useful information in between.
When I do "fglrxinfo" I get the Mesa information.
When I do "dmesg | grep radeon" I get this :

radeonfb: Found Intel x86 BIOS ROM Image
radeonfb: Retrieved PLL infos from BIOS
radeonfb: Reference=27.00 MHz (RefDiv=12) Memory=230.00 Mhz, System=190.00 MHz
radeonfb: PLL min 20000 max 35000
radeonfb: Reversed DACs detected
radeonfb: Monitor 1 type CRT found
radeonfb: EDID probed
radeonfb: Monitor 2 type no found
radeonfb (0000:01:00.0): ATI Radeon BB
radeonfb (0000:01:00.1): cannot map FB
radeonfb: probe of 0000:01:00.1 failed with error -5

Stuff I've tried:

Black Screen Wiki
ATI TV Out in R5D1 Wiki
fglrx drivers 8.20.8
fglrx drivers 8.26.18
aticonfig
fglrxconfig
[Other stuff I'm forgetting]

I've poured through the forums, but nothing I've found has got it working yet. I'd be happy to post any logs you'd like to see. I'm hoping some intelligent person will immediately recognize the dumb__s thing I've done and help me on my way. Please go easy on me, I'm new at this.

Thank you for your time!

AIW cards still don't work last time I checked... ATI video cards work for output, and certain ATI capture cards work with the BTTV driver, but the AIW cards are not a going proposition.

Thanks for your reply, tjc.

I did a search of the forum, and I found a couple others who had success with their AIW 8500's on older releases of KnoppMyth.

I followed the instructions in the Compile Ivtv wiki, and now when I do

Code:
dmesg | grep ivtv

I get:

Code:
ivtv: Unknown symbol tveeprom_read
ivtv: Unknown symbol tveeprom_hauppauge_analog

Does this mean anything to anyone?
Where is it getting Hauppauge from?

If no one has any suggestions, I'm going to try R5C7.

Thanks for your help!
