Ok as I type this I am waiting for my case to be delivered today to make my first HTPC. My computer along with my router is in another room of my apartment so it is essential that I get my HTPC to go wireless to grab its content for the TV channels and such. I am a complete newb to linux(as in I have yet to even lay my eyes on it since I haven't installed knoppmyth yet).

Wireless: GIGABYTE GN-WP01GS IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Adapter

So this may sound like a dumb question, but should I download that to a cd or should I just have my linux machine hooked up to the internet and do it that way.

I guess I am just confused about how to download and such because so far everything I have read has all these wierd paths and such. I am sure once I get it all installed I may understand a bit more.

Well the machine is up and running, but I can't say the same for knoppmyth. I did the install and for now I am using a network cable stretching from room to room and I can get in and set up my mythtv stuff. I got it to show all my channels and such, but when watchin live tv on it my hauppage 500 is having the static or snow effect like others have described. I tried to download firefox and now have no clue how to install it. Essentially what I am saying is I have no clue what I am doing lol. I hate to be a pain, but I need some help.

I am a complete newb to linux(as in I have yet to even lay my eyes on it since I haven't installed knoppmyth yet). I have read a few walkthroughs(ndswrapper and other options), but so far I am still confused and I am curious what the easiest way is to get your HTPC wireless when running knoppmyth. If it means I need to order a a new wireless adapter I will, but I just want to make this as painless as possible for my first HTPC build. Here is my hardware list along with the wireless adapter and my linksys router which is running WEP security. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place or just to be blunt about all of it, but like I said I am a newb to linux and I just spent this money on parts and I just want to be able to get this thing up and running this weekend while I am off from work. Me, I run an Atheros based wireless card which requires the download and compile of the madwifi package. This was reasonably easy, but then again, I've been messing with Linux for some time.

It seems like setting up wireless in Linux can be difficult if you are a newbe, so I ended up buying a Linksys WRT54GL wireless access point to use as a bridge. The WRT54GL is open source and can be flashed with new firmware to make it do all kinds of cool things and can be had for about $45 from places like newegg. I downloaded and installed DD-WRT, which was easy. It actually puts a version of linux on the router and can make it do things like act as a bridge. Now all the ethernet ports on the access point can talk to my main access point in a transparent way. It works well and was easy to setup. My Knoppmyth box just DHCP's as though it were pluged into my main router. I should warn you, I consider myself pretty technically savy. I have limited linux experience, but lots of general computer experience. I was pulling my hair out for several weeks trying to get knoppmyth to work. Don't expect it to be even remotely close to plug and play. Set aside lots and lots of time. However, now that it is mostly working, I have to say that it is really, really cool. Much better than anything available in windows.

If you are able to connect your myth machine to the internet in order to setup the wireless, that would be the easiest.

I can't help with your Hauppage issue, as I don't use one myself, but in order to install firefox, simply doing: Code: apt-get install firefox will download and install firefox for you.
