Hi. I have been running knoppmyth for several months, and today all of the sudden, my pvr150 stopped working.

On boot I see an error about /dev/video0 failing.

dmesg shows nothing.

What can I do? I already tried moving the card to another slot.

Anyone heard of this happening? What are the chances the card failed and how can I find out.

THanks

Stick the 150 in another Windows or Linux computer to see if it is fried.

It works in another computer, so it is a software issue.

I was afraid I was going to have trouble testing it b/c my other computer is running XP x64 which sometimes makes finding drivers difficult.

See the "CheckingLogFiles" page on the wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles

Also check that the firmware hasn't been lost or damaged:
Code:
md5sum /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-*

The md5sum output should be:

Code:
    305dba74bbe5905447add8883f3ecb68  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw
    9b39b3d3bba1ce2da40f82ef0c50ef48  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
    0661f8b2693fe3123e6234557353eacc  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-init.mpg

or:

checksums are right, and as i said before, log files dont show anything useful

dmsg doesnt say anthing useful, messages doesnt say much beyond "mythtv -- MARK --"

Shutdown cold (either switch it off at the power supply after it's down or pull the plug), leave it sit for 5 minutes, then switch it back on and reboot.

Sometimes the firmware on the card gets roached and it won't reload until it really gets cleared wihich takes a few minutes with no power to the box.

Actually, I probably misread it. It most likely said v4l-cx25840.fw

What does this show on your box?
Code:
root@black2:~# ls -al /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 262144 Mar  5 22:20 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 376836 Mar  5 22:20 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 155648 Mar  5 22:20 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-init.mpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  16382 Mar  5 22:20 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx25840.fw
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root   8192 Mar  5 22:20 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-24xxx-01.fw
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root   8192 Mar  5 22:20 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-29xxx-01.fw
root@black2:~# ls -ald /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware
drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 4096 Mar  6 00:36 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware

OBTW - "Off" means more than one state with modern electronics. Unless you really removed all power from the box, rather than just turning it off with the front "power" button, it probably wasn't enough to clear the firmware. This is why I emphasized turning ot off _at the power supply_ or by _unplugging the cord_. If you didn't do this, it might not have been enough.

Reboot it, run the following command and post the output:
Code:
dmesg | sed -n '/= START INIT IVTV/,/= *END INIT IVTV/p'

Surprised you didn't notice the differences in the ls output... Or the differences in the md5sums...

Grab the firmware from the ivtv wiki and install it. The CompileIvtv page on the KM wiki has full instructions, you only need to do steps 5, 6, and 10.

md5 is the same, which is why i didnt notice

(before the update)
Code:
root@mythtv:~# md5sum /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-*
305dba74bbe5905447add8883f3ecb68  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw
d85cb08382395390dc95ac6ebc2205f9  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
0661f8b2693fe3123e6234557353eacc  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-init.mpg
99836e41ccb28c7b373e87686f93712a  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx25840.fw
34d213394328adf78e2fc9f1411691b0  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-24xxx-01.fw
3b7288416144467369ed2b5b10cf931d  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-29xxx-01.fw

the md5 for the new v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw is 9b39b3d3bba1ce2da40f82ef0c50ef48, which doesnt match the wiki or your post.

No issue anymore. thank you!

Thanks for all the help tjc. sorry if i've sounded like a jerk. Do you think it is safe for me to add the new checksum to the wiki?

Also, any idea how this could have happened?
