Post subject:  R5E50 ATI 9200 stretched/distorted Video

Hi.

I just upgraded my R5D1 system to R5E50 and have come across a common but nasty problem due to my ATI Radeon 9200 video card.

The TV-out works beautifully for the MythTV menu and X in general, however when I watch live TV or a DVD, the image seems to be stretched to about double the size.

I'm using the fglrx driver from the Debian repositories (v 8.28.8-4) as the version recommended in the wiki for R5D1 is not compatible with the version of xorg in R5E50.

Has anyone had any luck getting their ATI based card working with R5E50? I'd really prefer not to have to spend $60 on a new nVidia based card - it would lead to marital disharmony.

I just got my box running tonight on a computer monitor and i'm having trouble trying to figure out how to get the tv out on. I'm using the same card that you listed and was hoping you could help me. I'm not real familiar with linux and can't figure out how to use the line edit/etc/X11/XF86config-4 that is metioned in the instruction.

This wiki article almost works for R5E50 EXCEPT that the older ATI drivers recommended for use (because they make tv-out work properly) are incompatible with x.org 7.1 (which is what R5E50 uses).

Unfortunately this means that you have to install a newer version of the ATI driver in order to get tv-out working with this video card, but in newer versions of the driver watching TV has a horrid bug.

My solution - I swapped the video cards between my desktop PC and my myth box so that the desktop PC got the ATI card and the myth box got an Albatross GeForce 6200 based nVidia card (which works incredibly well).
