Post subject:  Setting up a remote cntrol

Hi Guys,

I've been using Knoppmyth since R4V5 and love it, Thanks to all of you for making this project what it is.

I am in the process of trying to polish my entertainment system and picked up a nice universal remote. I learned all the buttons on my grey hauppauge remote and it works fine to control my myth box but there are a bunch of buttons that I would like to use to control more features of myth. The remote has preprogramed codes for a number of DVRs but none of them are on the list in the lirc-reconfig.sh script. I can find config files on lirc.org but I'm not having any luck configuring this. I have tried to replace the /etc/lircd.conf file with the one from lirc.org but when I restart lircd and run irw I don's see any response from the remote. I'm using a PVR350 as my receiver, am I stuck with the hauppauge remote?

Which files do I need to change to do this manually or am I just out of luck?

Sounds like maybe you need to build your own receiver. The Hauppauge remotes use a specific method of communicating (JP-6 if I recall correctly), so you need are remote that transmits what the receiver understands. As I've not built a receiver all I can say is check lirc.org for schematics... Or if you want to control multiple devices, perhaps CommandIR.

building a reciever is pretty easy. its about 6 components that yu can get from radio shack for about $10. it was the first circuit I ever put together. fun project.
