Post subject: | No Sound in "Watch TV" pcHDTV HD3000 |
I am newbie, and I have been working on a mythtv box for a couple of months, I finally got everything to work with the exception of sound when watching tv. I have sound when watching a DVD, CD, or stream, but no sound when watching TV or a TV recording. It seems the sound from my capture card (pcHDTV 3000) is not being captured. I have basic cable and the only capture card selection that worked was: "Analog V4C Capture Card" pcHDTV HD3000 HDTV [cx8800] Video Device: /dev/video0 VBI Device: /dev/vbi0 Audio Device: /dev/dsp Audio Sampling Rate Limit: 4800 Default Input: Television I have runned alsaconf, and all the volumes in the mixer settings are 100% As you can see is not that I have no audio, is that I have no audio coming from the capture card. There is an audio port in the card and I can hear the live audio of the channel, but that doesn't do me any good if I record, or pause the channel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Post subject: | ran cat /proc/asound/cards |
I ran cat /proc/asound/cards and got this back: 0 [nForce3 ]: NFORCE - NVidia nForce3 NVidia nForce3 with ALC650F at 0xe2001000 , irq18 Shouldn't I be seing an entry for the audio of my capture card? |

You said you ran alsaconfig. Try running alsamixer from a command line: Code: # alsamixer
Each sound channel can be muted and EVERY install of Knoppmyth comes with all the sound channels muted. (By the way, can that muting problem on new installs/upgrades be fixed??) If there is an "MM" at the bottom of each volume column, then it's muted. Use the left and right arrow keys to move from channel to cannel and use the M key to mute and unmute each channel. The other thought is the sound source choices in the Myth Setup screens. I'll have to go look at mine and post what they are set to. Eric |

Post subject: | I've runned alsamixer |
Thanks neutron68, I done that, I checked again unmuted everything and set everything to the max, it made no difference. I noticed you have an HD3000, are you able to get sound from an analog signal? It seems that i made the mistake of buying the hd3000 thinking that I was covering all my bases, but the card is really designed for digital signals (the sound is part of the signal). All I found is that I need to run a patch cable from the audio out of my HD3000 to the Line In of my computer, that only made me able to hear the live sound again. If I pause or rewind the audio stays live, so it completely defeats the purpose. Unless someone knows a way of fixing this, I might need to buy a PVR-150 or something like that. |

Post subject: | my settings |
I have not had any luck getting analog tv with the HD-3000. There really isn't any documentation telling how-to, either. Thus, I only use it for HDTV. Let me get my audio setup documented so you can compare it to yours. My sound settings (from the Mythtv sound setup screen): Setup / Setup / General / Sound (3rd screen in General) audio output device: /dev/dsp Passthrough output device: Default use internal volume controls - checked Mixer device: /dev/mixer mixer controls: PCM independant muting of right and left audio channels - unchecked |

Post subject: | HD-3000 not for analog broadcast |
Thanks for your help, but the conclusion is that the pcHDTV HD-3000 is NOT designed to be used for analog NTSC broadcast is only good for digital broadcasting. I just got a PVR-150 and got it working in less than 15 minutes. I'm keeping the HD-3000 so I have an HD card ready when I decide to spend the money for and HD set. |
