Post subject: | Confused on connecting to TV |
Hey all. I want to try and connect my Knoppmyth box to my TV. I have the Hauppauge 150 so it does not have video out. My TV is a 32' Aquos LCD. It has HDMI, Svideo, and component inputs. I really don't know much when it comes to tv connections and such so was wondering if you guys could recommend which I should try to go with. I heard mention about an FX5200 card. Anyone use this one and if so how do you like it? |

What kind of video card do you have now? If you have a DVI port, you may want to try a DVI-HDMI converter like this: http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?cat ... id=24-9350 |

A FX5200 or 6200 will work best for the least amount of money and lower power/heat and noise then the higher end video cards. Make sure to get a video card that has at least one DVI port. There are also HDMI to DVI cables that include the adaptor plugs for sound. |

Hello, my first post here: I'm a beginner when it comes to Linux, Knoppmyth and Mythtv but I had help in configuring and setting up KnoppMyth on one of my computers. I was using a CRT monitor but now I'd like to use an LCD TV. It worked fine with the CRT and I was using only the tuner card. I'm trying to use this setup: SA Explorer 2000, Sharp LCD TV (w/ 1366 x 768 resolution so 1080i or 720p), graphics card is GeForce FX5200. I'm not sure if I need an updated (HD) SA Explorer settopbox but I was going to try keeping this one for now. The Nvidia card has the DVI port so I connected the cable to the HDMI port on the TV. I am trying to understand how KnoppMyth/MythTv/the PVR card would utilize the connections of the video card and TV. In case I need to add further info, the TV Tuner card is a Hauppauge 150. When I boot up KnoppMyth, it starts up until it gets to the X window and then it goes completely blank or to a black screen. In other words, I don't get to see if it boots up the Fluxbox screen. Can anyone explain what's happening? I hope it's okay to post this as a followup to this thread. I thought it was related so instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd continue this one. I am somewhat confused on the connections but I think I have the connections correct. Do I have to check .conf files or edit/create a script for the tv? That would be advanced for me but I'm willing to learn. Thanks in advance for any advice and/or comments. |

I think this is what you're looking for: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=XF86ConfigForFX5200HowTo This is the configuration for your 5200 using TV out. I believe it's the same setting for the component out to hook to your tv. This will work for R5D1 but not R5E50. |

SetupHowTo I also found these threads interesting: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14153&highlight=dvi+hdmi http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14054 http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14411&highlight=dvi+hdmi There are different combinations I can use? Such as using component video (same as the tv out on the 5200?) or DVI to HDMI? From the sounds of it, if I want the DVI to HDMI connection method, I need to use modelines? |

The one ik632 posted is the one I used for a SDTV connected via S-Video, I don't think it's relevant for you. You definitely want to follow one of the HDTV examples. |
