Post subject: | How to switch graphics card? |
I have Ati Radeon 8500 and I thought of changing it. The Live TV image is perfect in quality, but the frame rate is somehow a wee bit "slow". I thinking of buying a graphics adapter which supports XvMC, hoping that would fix the problem. I have very limited knowledge of changing hardware in Linux. So my question is: what do I have to do to change graphics cards? What settings to change? What do I have to do to reconfigure Xorg? How can I run KnoppMyth hardware detection routine all over again without re-installing the whole system? I would (once again) be really grateful for step-by-step instructions! |

The easiest option will be to do a backup and then to upgrade KnoppMyth (even if it's too the same version). However, if you have more patience than that you can put your video card in and see what happens. You may need to either edit your xorg.conf by hand or to run Code: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg to generate your xorg.conf for you.I'm not 100% on this, but there's a chance that if you use another ATI Radeon based card that you may not need to edit anything - as long as the card is supported by the drivers you have installed currently.[/code] |

Thanks! I'll try the dpkg-reconfigure once I get a new card. It won't be ATI, though... |
