Post subject:  Video flickers and jumps

When watching tv the video is jumpy and flickers with horizontal lines. Also at times it the image from the bottom of the frame is seen at the top of the frame. It also seems that some channels are worse than others.
Any ideas of what might be wrong and what I can do to fix it?

I have:
P4 - 2GHz
768 mb ram
nVidia GeForce2 MX200
Hauppauge PVR-150

What version of Knoppmyth are you running?

When I upgraded to R5E50, I had a lot of flickering going on and had to change the TV playback deinterlacing from BOB to kernel to get the image stable.
Do you have any playback filters set up? What about "Enable real time priority threads"?

I too have had problems so severe with the second tuner of my PVR500, that I have removed it as a source. Something seems wrong with the driver in R5E0 that I had to go back to R5C7. I am hoping to find a fix for it as I love E over C.

Problem just as described by willowheel, but this is at capture. When streaming to web I get the same eractic video; playback as kernel not a factor for this problem.

Fresh install of R5E0
Dual AMD1800 on Gigibit server board
PVR500
1 GB Ram (ECC 512 * 2)
.5 TB diskspace
6200 Nvidia Upgraded Nvidia drivers

I spent many hours looking for a fix with phrases like, "R5E0 video PVR500" and many more complicated searches without any luck.

Today I found these threads about this problem.

I changed my resolution to 720x480 and it got even worse, then I turned off VBI and the problem was solved.

Thanks for the help!

Could you describe in more detail what you had to do? I'm having a very similar issue.

Yes, please tell us what you did exactly to solve the problem. I have the same problem with my PVR-150 and the video flicker.

To set the resolution:
From the startup MythTV menu
Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles -> MPEG2 encoders

Go through the profiles and set the resolution to 720x480

In my case I did not have to do anything else, and don't know how to turn off the VBI.

Remember to reboot after changing the resolution!

Not necessary. During normal operation the back end applies the resolution appropriate for the recording profile in use at the start of each recording.

Also, remember that there are multiple profiles. Changes made to the default or other profiles won't be seen while testing with live tv and the "live" profile, and changes made to the live profile won't affect recordings that don't use it.
