Does anyone know of any devices that are available which would work as a prv remote (somethhing similar to the remote that comes with the haupaugge 150) AND provide the ability to power on a pc - either through something similar to what wake on lan does, or interfacing with the power connecection pins on the motherboard in some way? The reason I'm asking, I've got knoppmyth running well, however I don't like leaving my machine on. I've got my machine doing "bios wakes" using mythwelcome to record shows, however, when I just want to sit down and use the device inbetween recordings, I need to acutally power on the pc using the power button on the front of the unit. I'd really love to be able to use a remote... Any suggestions? |

To set this up, you'l probably just need to change some bios settings. most bioses have an option to go into s1 or s3 standby, and you'll want to use s3. your bios should also have an option to choose which devices you want to use to wake up the computer from s3. some options should be ps2, wake on lan, usb, etc. if you have a usb remote, choose the usb option. Then, when your computer goes into s3 standby (typically youll have to change the function of the power button to s3 as well, so that instead of shutting down the computer will go into fanless standby) you can press any button on any usb device to wake the computer up. However, I have a new computer that I do this on, and haven't tried it on others, so the newness and bios will probably be the deciding factors in whether or not you can do this. I'm sure theres also something to interface with the green pin on the motherboard power cable, though ive never seen one. |

Not a bad idea, the machine has an older Asus bios. I'm pretty sure there are no "wake irq" options, (only wake on date and wol) but I actually had not thought of doing a bios update (or specifying irq's) to see if this would be supported. I'll hunt for a bios update tonight and see how it goes. I wish I could just build a little device that I could power with a 9v battery that could be programmed to respond to a signal from my remote. Quite like how you program a universal remote. Then I could just pipe the outs to the pins on my mobo for power on. Of course, you idea is perfect if my mobo will support it... I'll keep everyone posted. |

Yeah, no dice. The motherboard doesnt support irq wakeups... I will continue to scoure the internet for the right gadget. |

In case anyone is following this thread with any interest, I've found and ordered this integrated chip http://simerec.com/SIS-1.pdf Looks like it'll be able to do exactly what I want. I'll set it up in a little box press the record key, and voila, hook the outputs to my pc and she'll boot when I hit the mute button on my haupauge remote...( or whatever button I please ) Anyone else interested in this type of solution? Perhaps I'll bulk order some chips. |

Nice, I would surprised if someone did not already produce a PCB with all the support resistors\ capcitors, LEDs. I am interested in hearing the results of your project. |
