Post subject:  hdhomerun firmware

I need to upgrade my firmware, but am having troubles actually getting the firmware. How do I download it?

When I run:

hdhomerun_config <my device id> upgrade 20070512

It tells me "unable to open file 20070512". So my first guess was that the file wasn't there, so I tried to download through knoppmyth but have been unsuccessful.

What do I need to do?

Thanks!

Did you download the firmware file first? http://www.silicondust.com/trac.fcgi/wi ... re_upgrade http://www.silicondust.com/trac.fcgi/wiki/downloads

EDIT: Hit "Submit" too quick. You'll need to wget the firmware first, then supply the full filename (and probably the path to the file) /EDIT

I've got it downloaded and upgraded, but I'm still getting the errors when scanning channels.

Still getting:

Timeout Scanning ATSC Channel ## -- no tables

Any ideas?

I don't have any, sorry. Don't have an HDHomeRun. What version of KM/MythTV are you using? AFAIK you need at least KM R5E50 - See http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... =hdhomerun

Using R5F1. I can play DVDs, sound works, everything else seems good except for the actual tv part.

Off the top of my head I would double-check my labs.zap2it.com settings, as well as the Capture Card and Video Inputs settings in mythtv-setup. I know Martian has (had?) an HDHomeRun, as do others on these forums, so hopefully someone can help you out.

I'm pretty sure I've got all of that set up correctly. I haven't been able to find out too much about this problem, but what I have found seems to point to a software issue. I'm hoping I just missed something.

Is there a way to manually enter the channels? Can I modify the channels.conf myself?

Are you using QAM or ATSC?

You find these directions?

http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2317

With R5F1 will be able to skip a few steps because the HDHR is automatically detected and tuner/listing added during install.

I used my Windows XP laptop to verify HDHR worked and install firmware, but I would assume the firware upgrade on Linux would require the file extension too?

Code:
hdhomerun_config <my device id> upgrade 20070512.bin

OTA ATSC as one input and Cox cable as the other.

Yeah I followed those directions when I was setting it up. R5F1 found the HDHomerun on it's own and recognized it. If I run the dvb scan from a terminal I can get all the channels at 99%. So it finds them fine. But when I do a scan through mythtv-setup I get the "Timeout Scanning ATSC Channel ## - no tables" message.

For what channel numbers? I get a whole slew of lines like
that for channels above the highest allowed UHF channel (69).
Apparently, MythTV tries to scan a bunch of illegal channels.

At one point in history, UHF TV channels used to go up to 83,
but channels 70-83 were reallocated to other uses many years
ago. MythTV apparently doesn't know that.

I just ignored the messages, and my HDHR seems to be working
fine.

I get them for every channel, OTA and cable.

What exactly does the "no tables" mean? Is there some disconnect between the channels and the database?

Oh God, Please solve this!!! I got my HDHOMERUN for Christmas, but have yet to record or watch a single thing on it. I've watched a few minutes via VLC before the HDHOMERUN stops streaming and needs to be retargeted. I've tried debugging it with the assistance of Nick/Jafa but to this day... no HD.

It's really sad. My wife is BEGGING for a TiVo.

Well right now I'm looking into manually creating the channels.conf. I've been trying to run the dvb scan script, but I'm getting this error:

FATAL: failed to open '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0': 2 No such file or directory

I feel like I'm so close to getting everything to work, yet so far! I guess the good thing is I'm learning a lot. But I'd sure like to be able to watch tv.
