Any one have one installed? If so, what brand? Looking to get one for my system. Could use some opinions... thanks |

I after a cheap card from ebuyer with optical out died I replaced it with this card Terratec Aureon 5.1 PCI Sound Card http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=176635 Seems to work fine with R5F1 and enabling the optical out in alsamixer. Workes a treat. I'm getting 2.1 from the DVB-T channels (upmixed through my Logitech z-5500's to 5.1) and proper dts/Dolby digital from dvds and other 5.1 media. I'm in the UK btw. I think Terratec are a German brand. |

how do you enable it in alsa mixer? |

Alt-X brings up a console. type su (password) puts you in super user. type alsamixer. Off the top of my head I can't remember which channel/option you need to unmute the optical out, but find it and press M to unmute it. Due to a bug, alsamixer settings don't save on reboot. There is a simple fix, check the upgrade hints and tips thread for R5F1 by tjc. If memory serves it's listed there. |
