Post subject: | media mvp dhcp |
Running R5E0 with masterbackend, slavebackend and several frontends. I bought a media mvp a while ago and I want to enable it for use on a small kitchen tv. However reading through the documentation I see that they are saying that you have to set your mythbox or other router ( if its advanced enough to do the function) to do all your dhcp. I really dont want to mess with my router dhcp even though most of my devices are static. Is this the only way to go. If the mythbackend has to do dhcp for the mediamvp can anyone help tell me how I could just put another nic in the backend and only have it to dhcp for the media mvp? |

Unless you changed something in your Router when it was initially setup. It should be doing DHCP out of the box. Most of the consumer pocket routers are configured that way from the beginning. The fact the most of your devices are using Static IP in your house should not matter unless you happen to be using the same address pool range as the DHCP pool. Most of the time it should not matter, but there is the occasion where if your static devices happen to be turned off and this dynamic device gets turned on it could possibly get assigned one of your Static IP's. But again that would only happen if you happened to be using the same range of IP for Static and DHCP. Otherwise you shouldn't need to have your mythbox backend do the dhcp hosting for you. Hope that helps! |

Thanks for the reply. I apologize for not being more clear. I know that my router does dhcp. I also understand how the dhcp pool works. I have static addresses set up for my phones, print servers and media boxes. In the original version of the media mvp software it required a boot strap to serve up the new media mvp os. This needs two things the DHCP server and the tftp server running on the mythbox. I dont want to have my Mythbox be a DHCP server for my devices. I would rather leave that to my router. Doing more research I see that I can mod my linksys router with the 3rd party firmware that can potentially do this or use one of the other methods. Thanks for trying to help. |
