Post subject:  changing hardware (recorder) > after < installation

hi,

i have installed knoppmyth R5E50 on my box (some time ago) using a CD-Writer as the hardware component installed (to read the KM cd's)

when i change *now* the CD Writer for a DVD Writer (one drive out, new drive in), do i get problems with the recognising of that drive after i reboot KM...?
(both are ATAPI drives)
*when* i will get problems, how can i avoid these?

reason for asking: don't want to mess up the KM installation which works fine now...

reason for changing the drive: do want to burn recorded files to DVD to play them in standalone player(s)

thanks,
rob

It would help if we knew what the problem was... You're not providing any details. What error message(s) are you seeing?

I think it's more of "what will I need to do to get the DVD writer to work when I change it" rather than "I've changed something and now it doesn't work".

Was there not somekind of script that ensured /dev/dvd and /dev/dvdrw are setup correctly, or is that handaled automagically in 5E50?
Found the reference here, so as I can't find cd_setup.sh on my 5E50 box, that answers my question. :)

So knopprob, I don't think you should have any problems, just make sure the DVD settings are correct in Archive Files Settings and DVD Settings (Utilities/Setup->Setup->Media Settings).

## hi Bruce S.,

yes, this i was pointing to: 'a possible problem'
sorry (Cecil) when my message was not clearly formulated (i am no native E. speaker  ).

thank you for the info that 'changing the drives' will not give rise to problems.
