After a clean install of R5F27, TV out on my PVR350 works fine watching TV for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours and then it either goes black or the screen shifts to the left and there is a mostly green or blue tint. When the screen goes black, sometimes I can still hear audio but I can't quit back to the menu. When the screen changes colors and shifts the picture to the left, I can quit back to the menu but the picture stays the same and only a reboot fixes it.

The .xsession-errors log is filled with messages like these:

Failed to read: session.ignoreBorder
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.forcePseudoTransparency
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.numLayers
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.tabPadding
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.focusTabMinWidth

The mythfrontend.log has errors like these all the time:

Did you follow tjc's instructions here?:
http://www.mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16384

He discusses what you are describing in the section titled
"5.5) The new drivers also mean changes to the PVR-350 output."

Thank you for your response.

I would like to clarify that this was a clean install. I was on R5D1 before the need to switch to SD, but I did not do an upgrade. I did a clean install. I checked the 5.5 section of that link and it was mostly about upgrades. But I did try the 'options ivtv-fb osd_compat=1' suggestion with no luck. Also, a new install sets the correct ivtvfb module in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv. I double checked it and it was set correctly. I checked for the correct fbdev option in xorg.conf and it is set correctly. Xorg.conf has this:
Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb0"

/proc/fb has the correct setting:
root@mythtv:/home/mythtv# cat /proc/fb
0 cx23415 TV out

I also powered off the box to make sure it installed the firmware.

The symptoms I'm seeing are a bit different than the ones I have seen in other posts. TV out does work. It just stops working right after a while. It does not fail completely after a reboot. In fact, it works better after a reboot - at least for a while. The problem is that after it has been watching live tv for a while, the screen either goes black (but audio still works) or it shifts a few inches to the left and the color washes out in green or blue - but the picture is still visible, its just impossible to watch tv.

Did you do this?:
Quote:
5.7) The new drivers also require new firmware, even versus R5E50. If you have problems, make sure you've shut the machine down (powered off and unplugged) for 1-2 minutes to force the old firmware to be cleared.

Yes I did. A few times. I also tried a reinstall. No luck.

Is there anyone else out there having this same problem?

I dont' suppose this pertains to you? (It shouldn't because you aren't viewing HD content...):

Although I do not have a 350 (I use 2X150s), I guess you could try running the delayed_settings script to reset the IVTV settings?

There might be some other IVTV settings you could apply in the script.

Maybe you could shell into the system and run:
Code:
v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --list-ctrls-menus

You could output that to a file when the card is working well and then output to another file when it goes bad to compare for askew settings.

Also, there is a troubleshooting here that has a bunch of stuff pertaining to the 350.

Guys,

I have the EXACT same problem. I followed TJC's instructions to the letter. This apparently is a new bug.

For me it's got one extra twist too. It only happens on my SB not my MB. They are different hardware though so perhaps that sheds light. The MB is some no name brand pc, if more details are needed I'll need instructions to get them, and the SB is a dell.

Thanks for any answers.

I have the same problem on my girlfriend's MythTV which has a
PVR-350 in it.

The problem is on the playback side. Recordings recorded while the
problem is occuring look just fine when played back later and known good
recordings look bad until you reboot. Another problem I have found is
that if you Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a text mode console, you will find everything is
"double wide" and when you Ctrl-Alt-F5 (F7?) back to the X desktop and
MythTv, things are still "double wide" and you must reboot to fix that too.

There was a similar post perhaps a month ago. You might search for it.
As far as I know, there is no cure. If you find one, let me (us) know.

Does your PC have a VIA chip set in it? I suspect that it is related to that.

I understand that VIA chip sets are buggy and that hard use (video
recording is hard use) brings the problem to the surface, especially in
Linux.

I don't have the doublewide issue at all. I have no idea what chipset I have, how can I tell?

Also my problem occurs only on my SB not my MB. Both use a single PVR-350.

Thanks.

You can tell by looking at the big chips on the motherboard, or by
reading the manual that came with the motherboard, or by reading the
manual on line at the motherboard mfg's web site. It should be in the
"features" or "specifications" section.

Hmm... No double wide when you Ctrl-Alt-F1 Ctrl-Alt-F7 a few times...

It would help us somewhat to know if it was the motherboard
or the card and you have a perfect setup to test. It you could simply
swap the two PVR-350's in your two PC's around and let us know if it
follows the individual PVR-350 card or if it follows the motherboard.
My bet is that the problem follows the motherboard.

Well I can certainly swap the pvr-350's. But if i'm going to remove one, perhaps I should pop it into a win box and upgrade the firmware while I'm at it eh?

Rsvp.

hmm.. maybe something worth considering! (annoying that we have to go to windows landia to do it.)
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/support_pvr250-350.html (The FAQ tab has some interersting tidbits.)
Although I don't see your issues.. I do get some random lock-ups that I can't find in logs. (each of my machines will operate for about a week then lock.)
